For the first time, humanity discovered that it had the power to bring about its own extinction. Hollywood gave this invisible fear a face, turning the bomb into one of the defining narratives of modern cinema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 1950s, radiation spawned monsters, awakened prehistoric creatures, and threatened the planet. Behind giant ants, alien invasions, and contaminated bodies lay the anxiety of atomic war. Nuclear fear became intertwined with anti-Communist paranoia and the dread of an enemy infiltrating the heart of America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gradually, cinema abandoned metaphor to confront annihilation directly. <em>On the Beach<\/em>, <em>Fail Safe<\/em>, and <em>Dr. Strangelove<\/em> revealed a world in which a single human or technical error could destroy everything. In the 1980s, <em>The Day After<\/em> showed Americans what the aftermath of nuclear war might actually look like, while <em>Terminator<\/em> imagined machines making the decision to trigger the apocalypse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From <em>Dr. Strangelove<\/em> to <em>The Day After<\/em>, from <em>Terminator<\/em> to <em>Oppenheimer<\/em>, this documentary traces that political and cinematic history. It explores how Hollywood has denounced, spectacularized, and normalized the possibility of total annihilation.
